World Relief Cohort

What is World Relief?

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world's greatest crises in partnership with the church. They envision thriving, welcoming communities where families flourish, and people experience restorative relationships with God, their neighbors, themselves, and all creation. World Relief’s work in the United States, specifically, focuses on helping refugees and other immigrants in vulnerable situations rebuild their lives in a new country.

What is a cohort?

A cohort is a set of people grouped together for a common purpose. This is not a class where individuals come to receive data. This is a cohort where a group of people gather to read, process, discuss, and engage in ministry together.

What will this cohort do?

  • Meet together as a group for training, learning, support, encouragement and prayer.
  • Relationally engage with our immigrant neighbors as they acclimate to and navigate a new culture. Since World Relief provides numerous supports to families, we will explore a few different options for how we can partner with them.

What is required?

  • Commit to 9 months of engagement (Sept-May). Initially, cohort meetings will be around 2-3 times per month in the Fall. Depending on what opportunities the group pursues, this may increase in the Spring semester.
  • Completing required World Relief trainings and administrative requirements for volunteers.
  • Reading training and discussion materials.
  • Openness to new relationships and service opportunties.

When will we meet?

Our initial meeting will be a lunch meeting on September 7 at 12:15pm. The timing of future meetings is still being decided, but it will likely involve some Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
